Attendance and Punctuality
Attendance
Children need to attend school for 190 days a year; that leaves 175 non-school days for holidays and other family activities. We strive to provide a safe and stimulating environment for children and we want parents to bring children to school on time and every day. Research shows children who miss more school days than their peers do not progress as well. Our expectations around attendance and punctuality are made clear in our attendance policy (see below).
Because of the impact of poor attendance on progress, it is more likely these children will fail to meet their expected levels of attainment. If this issue is not tackled, the consequences for children’s outcomes later in life can be dire.
Punctuality
School begins at 9am and we have a soft start from 8.55am when the gates open.
Any child who arrives after 9am will be marked in late.
It is important that children arrive on time to start school so that all pupils have a smooth start to the day and are ready to start their learning as soon as the register is taken. If your child is persistently late they will be missing essential information at the start of lessons and are likely to feel less able to get on with their work. The time lost in this way can soon add up to many hours of lost learning. A child arriving late into class is also disruptive for the other children. Punctuality is a valuable skill to develop as it also establishes good habits for secondary school and the world of work.
