Building on our learning from yesterday about different types of homes, we looked at the book Iggy Peck Architect. This inspired some fantastic conversations about what an architect is, as one child explained “They do drawings then send them to the engineer to see if they can build them”. We wondered if engineers did the same job as builders. We decided they were a bit different as the engineer might look at the architect’s designs and decide if they are safe and might change them a bit so they can be built, where as a builder is helping to construct the final plan! The children were keen to send off their own designs to an engineer to see if they could make their structure. There were so many different designs today, from sky scrapers to bridges – now I just need to get in contact with the engineers and get those designs in the post!
