We have been exploring the inspiration painting for this year’s competition, The Tempete by Claude-Joseph Vernet. After researching the historical context for the painting, we decided that the boat could have been shipwrecked whilst completing the spice route from India to Europe. Using our learning from our earlier topic on migration, we asked ourselves the question: “how do you welcome the shipwrecked ashore?” This has been the starting point for our art project, we’ve planned our pieces and today we started painting!
